Higher High - Moving Up To 5NL

Patiently grinding at 2NL, I finally have breakout on my win rate chart. You'll find me playing at 5NL tomorrow.

Wife asked me to teach her how to play poker. I got her started on Governor of Poker at agame.com. That's where I learned the basics myself. She has more time for herself lately, and I don't know why, but all of a sudden, she wants to play poker.

That's good, isn't it?

I quit one of my clients just now. He never keeps his word, pays late, and what's worse, presents himself as an expert in his field (NOT). He's got two other pinoys working with him. I think they are going to stick with him--or not. It's up to them anyway.

I have one other client to replace that revenue stream. I have one other in the works. I don't think I should be worried. This also gives me the opportunity to play more poker.

Variance, Staking And Winning Long Term

I am going through variance--again. This is not the best feeling to have playing poker. Nothing I can do here but tighten up and start playing with Murphy's Law.

Long term, I'm still up. It's just frustrating having to go through this. If things happen for a reason, what's the lesson here for me?

I've been through worse. I once went through a month of poker and had nothing to show for it. I think the lesson here for me is that, even if I had to go through a losing streak, I'd still learn something and improve my game.

Surely there were hands were I could have avoided losing a big stack. But that stack was used to learn something about how this particular reg plays. Maybe next time I go showdown with him/her, I will be a better player.

This is part of the game. Everyone goes through a losing streak. What differentiates the long term winners from the crowd is how they deal with such circumstances.

One more thing.

I mentioned in an earlier post that a friend of mine wanted to stake my cash games on the condition that we split profits.

In that earlier post, I mentioned that I wasn't eager about it, and that if we were to go through with the deal, that she consider that money lost and will never see again.

She said yes to that condition, and she even offered 70/30 sharing. I get 70 percent, she gets 30 percent. She reasoned that this is far better than the return she'd get from banks or any of her other investments (for that same amount).

Who wouldn't resist such an offer? We shook hands on it. She'll give me the money next week.

In the meantime, I shifted back play down to 2NL. Soon as her funds clear to my account, I'll move back up to 5NL.

Problem With Pot Betting, Tableninja - And How I Fixed It

pokerstars win rate chart 20,000 hands holdem manager

I had some issues with tableninja in the last two sessions. The problem was how tableninja was computing pot bets--either it was betting one big blind on the cbet, or it was betting way more than my required amount.

First, I decided to switch back to aero mode for win7. That slowed down my system, but failed to fix the problem.

As a last resort, I fired up autohotkey, looked up where the click needed to go and adjusted the pokerstars client bet slider options.

It seems to work for now, but I am going to observe how these changes will affect anything else.

Also, all the tables that I play on now are all 5NL, instead of playing mixed 2NL and 5NL.

I will post my ahk script with this update for my future reference.

NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
#Warn ; Recommended for catching common errors.

SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability.

Grow Your Bankroll By Just One Percent Each Day

poker one percent days

Here's another insight I got this morning on how to grow your poker business. Every single day, strive to grow your bankroll by just ONE PERCENT--on average.

Every decision that you make on the table should go towards making that one percent profit for the day. When villain, who has been playing like a rock for the last 1,000 hands shoves all in and you have two pairs--fold.

If you start with $100 today and make a one percent profit on this bankroll each day, at the end of the year (365 days), your bankroll will have grown to $3,778.34.

That's a whopping 3,678% growth!

Playing to win just one percent profit each day, what will happen to $3,778.34 the following year?

Your bankroll will then be $142,758.66

I started playing poker again with $100. To-date, my bankroll is ahead of the 1 percent compounding curve. Some days I make more than one percent, a few days, I give some of it back to the poker economy.

If you look at the chart above, you can see that I am on track and meeting my daily target.

Looking at the big picture, I think one percent days works. I am going to compare my end of month PnL to this one percent compounding curve from here on. I'll keep you posted.

What This Poker Player Did On Valentine's Day

Happy valentine's day to all!

I did not go out on a date. I've been married 13 years and with four kids. My wife and I celebrate this occasion, but this year, wife has over time work. Her birthday is going to be on Sunday. We both opted to go out on Sunday instead

On a day like this, I was able to play the usual three sessions. After the morning session, I took time out and went to the gym for a workout. Heading back, I got me some pork to roast and some mussels for lunch.

Here is how things unfolded at the tables today--

It's just me and the cat that's in the house during the day. Come 3pm, the kids start arriving from school, and all hell breaks loose. So yes, I love my mornings. Afternoon til night, I am a family man.

Pokerstars Client Update Equals Tableninja Fail

I got a client update from pokerstars a while ago, and now tableninja fails to enter the correct bet amount.

I am going to have to sit this one out until tableninja releases an update for this. I tried using the pokerstars hotkeys, but they do not work as well as tableninja.

I can figure out how to make the PS hotkeys work with autohotkey, but that is going to take some time to program. For one, I couldn't figure out how to cycle tables more efficiently using ahk.

With major client updates from pokerstars, tableninja usually responds within 24-hours. I am going to leave it at that for now. It is 11:00pm, time for bed.

Friend Wants To Invest $1,000 - I'm Not Excited About It

money magnet

I met an old friend for lunch today. During the conversation, I mentioned to her how my poker business is doing. That so far, I think it is possible to make 50 percent ROI each month.

I saw that she was interested as she was asking a lot of questions. Eventually, she asked, "Can I invest in your business?"

50 percent average profit each month: Possible?

While playing poker, I get a lot of ideas on what to write about for this blog. But by the time I finish the session and fire up this blog, I don't know what to write about. I get that all the time.

How To Play Your Way Out Of A Slump

I finally made it out of the slump. Chart above shows hands played for the last 10,000 hands. I had two straight hands vs set against villain with almost full stack.
